{Review}Etcetera by Sibella Court

My great grandmother was newlywed during the Great Depression.  I never had the opportunity to talk to her about what it was like or how they managed to get by (I was pretty young... and dense... to even think about asking such things), but I loved going down into her basement and looking at all of her belongings from a far simpler time.  It was like treasure for me, and I would sit and take it in forever.  Her old scissors, her iron, the jars... all of it was so lovely.
Now that I'm older and have a house of my own, I find my favorite kind of home decorating comes from flea markets, thrift stores and antique shops where I can fix things up a little so that they're perfect for my home.  When I visited Anthropologie recently, my eye caught this book...

etc
The woman behind this work is truly amazing, and her style is one of a kind.  I'm not saying that I could decorate my entire house like this, I do crave electricity and my microwave, but I love a little old thrown in with the new.  Check out
what's inside for yourself.

Olive Juice

I love Olive Juice's new Fall line.  They have a simple, Parisian vibe, and I love their angle on keeping it classic.

Open Cabinets

I've been flirting with the idea of pulling the doors off a couple of my kitchen cabinets for a while now.  I really think it's a beautiful look, and it definitely adds character to any kitchen.  Here's some inspiration:

My issues with taking off cabinet doors is that it ALWAYS has to be clean up there... and all the serve-ware has to match... or at least "flow" with the rest of the kitchen.  It is nice to hide things behind closed doors.

I may give in though, the temptation just might just be too much.

Don’t forget to visit our GIVEAWAY at {Oh}Brooke this week!  The last day is Thursday, so don’t miss the opportunity to win a super chic WhipperKeeper.

Milk Paint

My mom and I love furnishing our homes.  Nearly every time I pay her a visit, we stop by an old antique shop in the quaint little town of Shelly.  Here, Bramble Furniture sells their amazing pieces for a fraction of their retail price.  My mom has some of their furniture in her home and I just wish so badly that I could afford it myself.  Really, it's the finish that I love.  Here's an example...

brambleheadboard

Gorgeous, isn't it?  I'd really like to add another piece of molding to a shelf that I have in my family room and create this look.

pbshelf

I love it.  I must add though, you have to be really careful when decorating with pieces like this.  They ooze with character, and you wouldn't want to overdo it.  Keep the rest of your decorating around it simple so that your piece can "sing".
When I found Design*Sponge's tutorial for her
milk painting technique, my heart nearly jumped right out of my chest.  I truly thought that this finish was made for the pros only, something that I could only purchase.  However, Barb has written up a beautiful step-by-step guide to aging your furniture with milk paint.  It's definitely going up high on my eternally lengthy list of things to do.

What do you think of this finish?  Do you think it's fabulous?  Like it belongs at the dump?  Be true, I would love to hear.

Gypsy’s Crepes

I’m finally home from an unexpected extended vacation.  Well, the vacation was expected, the extension was not.  But it was a wonderful extension.

My cupboards are bare, I have mountains of laundry to climb, but I had to share one of my loves from the trip.   Part of the little jaunt was to the Peach Festival in Palisade, Colorado.  I am originally from Colorado, so heading home is a breath of fresh air for my overly cooked Las Vegas self.   While we were at the festival I stumbled upon this super yummy crepe trailer.

Not only were their all natural, organic crepes delish, their cute little 1963 travel trailer was to die for.

Isn’t it fun?  What is your favorite festival food?  Have you found a fun food truck or trailer?  I would love to hear!

Super Sweet Halloween

I'm totally digging Pottery Barn's "sweet" costumes for Halloween this year.  I think Hallie just might need to be my little cupcake.

Ochre Love

I have a tendency to spend quite a bit of time on sites that I have no business looking at.  Anthropologie.com is no exception.  Every girl needs a little self-indulgence though, right?  When I saw that Anthropologie was featuring ochre accents, my heart leaped for joy.  I've been pretty obsessive about the color lately, pouring over sites trying to find ochre pillows for my couches, a lamp for my console, and wallpaper for my eventual closet-turned-office space.  I may have to save my pennies for this fabulous wallpaper.

Little Brown Pen

I have been rather obsessed with Etsy for the last month or so.  Ever since I opened my WhipperBerry Etsy Shop I can’t help myself from becoming enamored with all of these amazingly talented people.  I have vowed to never buy any type of gift at a store EVER!

I stumbled upon this tasty little shop yesterday called the Little Brown PenJe suis amoureux {I’m in love!}  Ah, to live in France and be able to take weekend trips to Paris just to take pictures!!  Looking at these photo sets took me right back to that magical city.  What I love more than anything is how she groups them by color.  Genius!

Market Can’t you just see this photo set in your kitchen. Ok, I know my kitchen would love this!!  I LOVE open air markets, it’s another obsession I have in life.  But, more on that later!

Brooch Love

Call me silly, but when I’ve heard the term brooch in the past, it conjures up visions of my Grandmother and her mink stole.  Not exactly the look I am going for.  When I found The Brooch Boutique on Etsy I fell in love, and my visions of Grammy were quickly erased.

This shop is run by a cute young Mom named Mette, who lives in Denmark with her husband and cute son.  She has a degree in Italian language/literature and ancient Greek studies.  Don’t you wish you could be her?  Educated, creative, can’t you just picture her sitting around reading classic Italian literature crafting beautiful flower brooches and sipping peppermint tea?   Ah, the life.

Needless to say, I fell in love and had to have one.

il_fullxfull.117851422

This is my tasty little morsel.  Isn’t it divine?  It has the power to raise any outfit to Grace Kelly level just by adding it to the ensemble.  Drool, drool.  You too can have a beautiful brooch from Mette.  Visit her shop, The Brooch Boutique, you too will fall in love!

Oh, and don’t think I forgot!  Congrats to Emily N. you are the winner of this weeks Divine Twine giveaway!  Congrats!!
